Big thanks to our friend and lifestyle blogger Kristy for sharing her backyard movie night with us. We loved her helpful tips to make it special for your kids, but fun and easy for Mom and Dad to make it a smash hit! Check out all the ways she took this traditionally indoor activity outside.
It’s summertime! That means magical movie nights outdoors, yummy sunset treats, and lots of family time. As we look for new ways to jazz up our typical activities, a backyard movie night can be a great way to bring the fun outdoors!

Start at Dusk
It’s hot here in Texas, as I’m sure is the case for most of you wherever you are. Best tip: start at dusk when the sun starts to go down and the temps start to drop a bit.

Make Dessert Dips
Dips are ideal for grazing!
We made S’mores Dip on the grill using mini cast iron skillets. It was super easy and fun for the kids! And, we didn’t have to bother with making s’mores over and over again. We kept the graham crackers and fruit for dipping on a large tray which made it easy for everyone to choose what they wanted.
This Strawberry Cheesecake Dip was delicious!
Have a Picnic Spread
We went all out with the picnic spread. I loved creating a charcuterie board with a Lazy Susan, cheese tags, and paper labels. You can’t forget the plates and napkins when taking your movie night outdoors, so I set up all of ours in a wicker serving caddy.

Bring on the Popcorn
Of course, it wouldn’t be a movie night without popcorn! I love, love, love using a microwave popcorn maker. The collapsible silicone bowl pops the corn and makes it easy to add your favorite popping oil or butter. So cool! The whole family gobbles it up.

Pick a Movie Everyone Loves
Since we have a TV on our back patio, picking a movie to stream is the hardest thing we have to set up. My kids love all the cutest movies right now, so we went with The Good Dinosaur.
Diffuse Some Citronella
Don’t let bugs bother you when you’re trying to eat and enjoy a movie. I love diffusing citronella with a cordless diffuser. It keeps the bugs at bay.

Movie night success!
